Hennin - a classic Snood clone
2014-05-31

A week ago I ran into an article about Snood, a puzzle game that many of us spent a lot of time playing a long, long time ago. After reading the article I went looking for a Snood clone to play on Linux and didn't find any. As any crazy computer guy I did the obvious thing: wrote a clone of my own.

Written in Lua and using the LÖVE 2D framework, Hennin works on Linux, Windows or OSX. It's still very much a work in progress, so don't expect a lot, but it is playable. For now it is only available on GitHub, but I will have builds for all 3 OSes when the game becomes "stable".

I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to make. The framework has support for pretty much anything you might need, it's well documented and it works with Lua, so it's easy and fast to use. Because I was working mostly from memory, images and descriptions of the game, it's not an exact clone of Snood, but it should be just as fun.

If you ever wanted to make a 2D game and thought it might be too difficult, you might want to reconsider and give LÖVE a chance. Have fun.
